Walking Dead Issues 11 - 20

Walking Dead:
Source: Wikipedia

Sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes has been injured in a shootout and awakens in a hospital. Finding it full of zombies, he leaves, and finds his family gone. He goes to Atlanta, where it is said people were taken for protection, and meets a man who takes him to a survivor camp where Rick's wife Lori and son Carl, are. Lori is pregnant. Rick joins the group and helps gather supplies, then helps them look for a safer location. Picking up other survivors on the way, the group tries settling on a farm, whose owner keeps zombies in his barn; and they finally settle in a prison.
After getting settled in the prison, Rick and others discover a nearby group in the town of Woodbury, led by a tyrant called The Governor. The Governor severs Ricks right hand and brutally rapes Michonne.
Lori gives birth to a daughter. The Governor finds the prison and launches an attack. Both sides suffer many casualties, but one of The Governor's own people shoots him in the head. A number of Rick's people escape the prison.
Rick's group meets a man who lies about being in contact with survivors in Washington, D.C., so they all head there. They're invited to a peaceful, walled-off town named the Alexandria Safe-Zone. After the town is attacked by bandits and zombies, Rick destroys the entire herd of zombies and vows to rebuild civilization at Alexandria. Carl suffers a gunshot wound to the head and wakes up with amnesia.
A larger nearby community, The Hilltop, wants to trade with Alexandria, and they talk Rick into fighting off a gang called The Saviors. The Saviors, led by a man named Negan, ambush Ricks group and brutally murder Glenn, afterwards demanding Rick give half of all their supplies to the Saviors.
Rick, with the Hilltop's best fighter, Jesus, heads to a place called "The Kingdom" seeking help from its leader. While plotting an end to Negan's tyranny, Negan's lieutenant appears ready to defect and fight alongside Alexandria and its allies.

The Game: Neil Strauss

The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists
Source: Wikipedia

Summary:

Strauss stumbles across the community while working on an article.[1] Intrigued by the subculture, he starts participating in the online discussion groups, mainly out of his own frustration with his romantic life. As he becomes more and more involved in the romantic community, Strauss attends a "bootcamp" conducted by a man identified only as "Mystery." The bootcamp consists of Strauss and other participants approaching women and then Mystery and his counterpart Sin giving them corrective advice on their behaviors, body language, and what to say; Strauss learns habits that, as he sees it, are often basic — and should have been taught to him by society in the first place.

The book then narrates the journey of how Strauss goes through the stages of becoming a pickup artist, description about members of the community and how Strauss befriends many of them, particularly Mystery. A good deal of the book focuses on how to obtain the elusive upper hand, or just hand, in a relationship. Strauss advocates various methods — mostly from the point of view of heterosexual men. Strauss generally recommends a "cocky and funny" attitude. He offers further guidelines for the process of seduction, which include prepare things to say before going out, tell groups with women surreptitiously impressive stories but also "false time constraints" (a reason that the conversation could end very soon), put the woman of interest in a situation where she must convince the man she is interesting, very slowly increase the amount of physical contact, and more.

Strauss tells the story of his success; the spreading of the romantic community itself and his life at "Project Hollywood", a high-end mansion and a lifestyle plan shared by Strauss, Mystery, Playboy, Papa, Tyler Durden, Herbal, and other members of the seduction community; and how rivalries and animosity between members of the community lead to "Project Hollywood's" collapse. The book also documents the start of "Real Social Dynamics" with Tyler Durden and Papa. By the end of his story, Strauss concludes that a life of nothing but picking up women is "for losers", and he advocates incorporating pick up artist habits into a more balanced life.

Strauss mentions his experiments with sleeping habits, personal grooming and his encounters with celebrities such as Scott Baio, Tom Cruise, Andy Dick, Paris Hilton, Courtney Love, Dennis Rodman, and Britney Spears.

Caster Chronicles book 3

Beautiful Chaos
Source: Wikipedia

Beautiful Chaos is a fantasy young adult novel by authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. The book is the third entry in the Caster Chronicles series and was released on October 18, 2011.Beautiful Darkness debuted at number 45 on the USA Today bestseller list.

Plot

Beautiful Chaos takes place shortly after the events in the previous book. Lena and Ethan are once again a couple, but her Claiming both the Light and Dark has some serious repercussions, as it disturbed the Order of things. Meanwhile Ethan finds himself slowly changing. He is unable to eat even his favorite foods without becoming nauseous, begins to hear voices, see mysterious writings, and his dreams make it impossible for him to sleep. Ethan also finds himself beginning to slowly lose his memories as well as seeing a stranger in his mirror, something that Amma reacts abnormally to. Suspicious, Ethan and Link follow Amma as she travels to visit a male Seer. They decide to return later to visit him, where they discover that due to Ethan being revived in the events in Beautiful Creatures, his soul was brought back too quickly and was fractured as a result. Part of his soul resides in the underworld and unless Ethan brings the two back together, he will eventually change more and eventually lose himself completely. Link inquires as to how this would be possible, only for the Seer to mention that he and Amma made a deal and then refuse to elaborate.
As the chaos in Gatlin increases, Ethan and Lena attempt to find a way to save the town. They discover that the "One Who is Two" must be sacrificed for Order to be brought back into balance. It is believed that this person is Lena, as she had claimed both the Light and the Dark, only for them to find that it cannot be her because she is destined to bind the new Order once this person is sacrificed. The group briefly believes that it is John and the group travels to the town's water tower so John can commit suicide. Once there, John shares a brief moment with Liv, whom he has grown to love, before jumping from the tower. John narrowly avoids death, as it is revealed through one of the voices in Ethan's head that John is not the sacrifice and the group is transported back to Ethan's room by the Seer.
Ethan eventually discovers that he is the one destined to be the sacrifice to restore Order and spends the rest of the night in Lena's arms. The next day, he spends his last hours with his loved ones, later going to find Lena so he can say goodbye. Lena begs him not to become the sacrifice and that nothing else matters but him. The two exchange gifts, Ethan giving Lena his map of the various locations he'd planned on traveling to and Lena giving him her memory necklace. Ethan makes Lena swear to bind the new Order after his passing, only for Lena to become hysterical. For their last moments together he holds her until it is time for him to go. After leaving Lena, Ethan looked over his house and father one last time, as well as confronting Amma over her knowledge of his death and sacrifice.
Ethan arrives at the tower with John, only for Amma to appear and state that she was present for his birth and would do the same for his death, even though this is not that day. She attempts several times to save Ethan using her power and the power of her ancestors, which is interrupted with Macon's arrival and eventually ends with the Greats turning their backs on her. Ethan then climbs up the water tower and tries to jump, only to be stopped by his other half. The two fight, eventually toppling off the side of the water tower and slamming into the ground. Before he falls, however, Ethan thinks of Lena.

Dream Dark 2.5
Source: Wikipedia

Dream Dark is a short story in the Caster Chronicles series that takes place between Beautiful Darkness and Beautiful Chaos. The story focuses on Wesley "Link" Lincoln, immediately following the events of Beautiful Darkness. The story is considered book 2.5 of the series.

PLOT

The story begins with Link at his home. He is beginning to experience strange symptoms after Lena 's Seventeenth Moon, during which Sarafine pulled out the moon, forcing Lena to claim herself and causing a battle between Abraham and his followers and those who care about Lena's well-being; Lena eventually Claims herself to be both Dark and Light.
The first indication that something is wrong with Link is his loss of appetite, which immediately arouses suspicion in his Southern Baptist mother, who is very proud of her cooking. He also has heightened senses, and the smell of the food almost drives him to the point of vomitting. He then begins to experience increased strength and senses, which further convinces his mother that he's hiding something, and forces him to see a doctor under the suspicion that he is using steroids.

Later, he sees Ethan and Lena, and they put the pieces together and realize that his bite from John Breed, an Incubus-Caster hybrid, put him into transition into being an Incubus himself. Upon this realization, he is encouraged by Ethan and Lena to talk with Macon. Macon is no longer an Incubus, but still very knowledgable nonetheless, and is happy to help Link learn how to accept and use his new gifts, as well assisting him in adapting to a diet of the dreams and memories of Mortals. He and Ridley attempt to continue their on-again, off-again relationship, but she is still frustrated and bitter at the change in the balance of power between them; before, she was a powerful Siren and he was merely a Mortal, but now she is the Mortal and he is the one with the gifts of speed and strength. It is also revealed that after the events of the Seventeenth Moon, Liv has been continuing her studies of the Caster world with Macon in the tunnels, despite the fact that her actions that night have destroyed her chances of becoming a Keeper.

During one of Link and Macon's meetings, Macon gives Link an envelope and instructs him to take the message to his friend, Obidias Trueblood, who lives in Barbados. He emphasizes that the message is of utmost importance; when Link asks him why he wasn't doing it, he said that it was too dangerous for a Caster, and that he is the only one he trusts who is strong enough to do it. Macon also has Boo Radley accompany Link to help show him the way, although it could be assumed that he also wanted to be able to see what happened on the trip through Boo's eyes.

As he travels through the tunnels, he runs into a strange, unidentifiable creature, and his instincts take over--he uses his strength (as well as the gardening shears in his pocket) to protect himself and disable the creature before swiftly continuing on his path. Upon his arrival to Obidias' home, he finds Obidias on the ground, being fed on by Hunting Ravenwood, who was sent by Abraham Ravenwood. Hunting leaves in a rush, leaving Link unharmed but Obidias is nearly dead. Obidias has just enough time left to explain to Link that while he is a Dark caster, he is not "one of them" (ie: Abraham, Hunting, and Sarafine) as Link assumed, and goes on to explain that the Order of Things is in chaos, and suggests that some broken things cannot be fixed, implying that the Mortal world is in danger. He apologizes to Link and through him, Macon, for being unable to help more. After he dies, Link is confused, shocked, and frightened at what had just transpired, and opens the letter to see if there is any helpful information in it. The letter is blank, and Link realizes that the task for Macon was a test, and hopes that it is one that he passed.
